Keynote Speakers
We are pleased to announce that Dr. R. David Lankes will be speaking at the 2024 SCLA Conference on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024.R. David Lankes is the Virginia & Charles Bowden Professor of Librarianship at the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Information. He is the recipient of ALA’s Reference and User Services Association 2021 Isadore Gilbert Mudge Award for distinguished contribution to reference librarianship. His book, The Atlas of New Librarianship won the 2012 ABC-CLIO/Greenwood Award for the Best Book in Library Literature. Lankes is a passionate advocate for librarians and their essential role in today’s society.
Mychal Threets will be speaking at the 2024 SCLA Conference on Wednesday, October 30, 2024! Mychal is a library advocate and spreader of Library Joy. He is the recipient of the 2024 I Love My Librarian Award.
Dr. Nicole Cooke will be speaking at the SCLA Conference on Thursday, October 31st, 2024. Dr. Cooke is the August Baker Endowed Chair and an associate professor at the School of Library and Information Science. She was a practicing librarian for 13 years before completing her Ph.D. She has experience in public, medical, and academic libraries.
South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) Midlands Fall Workshop
The South Carolina Library Association (SCLA) is pleased to host the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) Midlands Fall Workshop alongside the SCLA 2024 conference. SCASL members who are only attending the Fall Workshop on Tuesday, October 29 should register via SCASL's website. SCASL Attendees who wish to attend subsequent days of the SCLA Conference (including the Mychal Threets keynote on 10/30) will need to complete single-day registration(s) for that date(s) with SCLA.
All sessions on Tuesday, October 29 are open to both SCLA and SCASL attendees.
