UNIVERSITY LIBRARY JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Full-time Director/Curator
Position Title: Keeper of the North Carolina Collection Gallery
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Position Summary: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks
an experienced, creative, and collaborative individual for the position
of Keeper of the North Carolina Collection Gallery. This position has
responsibility for general management of a 3,000-square foot suite of
exhibition areas and historic period rooms and a 22,000-item collection
of artifacts, memorabilia, numismatics items, "museum" objects, and
other historical materials.
Education Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS or Master's degree in
history, museum studies, public history, American Studies, or related
discipline, with relevant experience.
Qualifications and Experience: Required: ALA-accredited MLS or Master's
degree in history, museum studies, public history, American Studies, or
related discipline, with relevant experience. Five or more years of
full-time experience in a library, museum, historic site, or related
institution with significant responsibilities for planning and mounting
exhibitions. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with
curatorial, conservation, public services, and digitization library
staff to develop priorities and accomplish goals. Active participation
in appropriate professional organizations. Excellent communication
skills. Preferred: Knowledge of North Carolina history, literature, and
culture strongly preferred. Experience making presentations and giving
talks to cultural organizations and general public groups. Record of
publication (i.e. historical articles, book reviews, contributions to
professional organization newsletters, etc.)
