House rejects cuts to libraries

House lawmakers voted to overturn $4.6 million in cuts to libraries across the state ordered by a gubernatorial veto. Gov. Mark Sanford included the cuts among the 107 items he struck from the state's $5 billion spending plan.



But by a 110-5 vote the House rejected the veto. Senate lawmakers must now concur with the House by a two-thirds vote for the funding to remain in the budget.



"When you are looking at 20 percent unemployment and people, like in Union County, who only have Internet access at the library, you understand this is very important," said Rep. Mike Anthony, D-Union.
