Here is some information from Jim Johnson:

The Ways and Means Committee has pushed back by one week when they will
convene to discuss the budget.  They will now meet the week of Feb.23-25.

The Higher Ed/Cultural Agencies Subcommittee will recommend to the full Ways
and Means Committee that the State Library receive $1 million from the
lottery for public libraries.  This recommendation is consistent with the
State Library's budget request.

No proviso was presented to the Proviso Subcommittee this week re State
Library restructuring.  It appears that this issue is moot for this year.
FYI, a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee is considering H.3147, a House-passed
bill to create a Division of Administration under the Governor.  The State
Library is not mentioned in this bill.

With the Ways and Means Committee meeting pushed back a week, this gives
library supporters an extra week to contact members of the committee in
support of $1 million for public libraries from the lottery.  Contacts need
to be made to all 25 members of the committee.

Ways and Means staff will use next week to crunch numbers.  It is not known
at this time what budget cut the State Library will have to absorb.  The
budget is $500 million in the red.  With declining revenues, that number
could very well be nearer $600 million by the time Ways and Means finishes
its work.

If you hear back from any committee members, please be sure to let Jim know.  Here is his contact info:
