Reference Services Specialist (LIS Associate)
Reformed Theological Seminary Library, Charlotte, NC

This is a full-time position.  Some evening and Saturday hours may be required.

Duties

The Reference Services Specialist reports directly to the librarian.  Duties will include but not necessarily be limited to:

-       Provide proactive reference assistance to students in using library resources.  Refer difficult reference requests to the library director as needed.
-       Participate in both formal (group) and informal bibliographic instruction regarding all library resources with students.
-       Supervise all inter-library loan functions.
-       Help oversee circulation activities to ensure that materials are accounted for properly (this includes oversight of student workers)
-       Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills Needed

-       Ability to interact with students and faculty in a friendly manner.
-       Attention to detail in all aspects of work.
-       Strong computing skills required - no exceptions.  Experience with MS Word, Excel, and other MS Office programs strongly preferred.
-       Ability to perform multiple kinds of duties within one day with frequent interruptions.
-       Willingness to learn new skills as necessary.
-       Some familiarity with theological resources, preferably in the Presbyterian and Evangelical tradition.
-       Though the MLIS is not required for this position, some academic library experience is preferred.

Pay

            Depends on experience.  This is a salaried position with full benefits and retirement (401K) plan.  Tuition remission is available for courses on our campus as well per institutional policies.

On or after May 1, 2010.
