Hello SCLA Technical Services Section members!

The SCLA annual conference is fast approaching (October 28, 2009-October
30, 2009 in Columbia, SC) and we hope you're all planning to attend! As
you may know, this year's conference theme is :

South Carolina Libraries: Diverse People and Exceptional Services

There are a number of great sessions and events being planned for this
conference, one which is being sponsored by the Technical Services
Section:

Palmetto NACO or How to Share South Carolina's Authorities Nationally
Presented by Jodi Spillane and Scott Phinney from University of South
Carolina
Thursday, October 29, 2009 8:30a.m.-9:30a.m.

Authority control is vital for continued accurate access to collections
through a library's online public access catalog. This organization of
items is a service the library community offers to its patrons. An
overview of the Name Authority Cooperative Project (NACO), the process,
and how to participate in this national service are discussed. Come join
us for our presentation about NACO and its value to libraries and their
patrons.

This is going to be a great session so we hope you can attend and share
your thoughts. We also hope you will remain for the Technical Services
Section business meeting which will occur at the conclusion of this
presentation. At this business meeting we will be voting on officers
and brainstorming for future TSS workshops/sessions . The Technical
Services Section is a great way to get involved in SCLA so, please join
us on Thursday, October 29th and bring your great ideas with you! We
look forward to seeing you.

If for some reason you are unable to attend please send workshop or
session ideas to Pat Vierthaler, patricia.vierthaler at tridenttech.edu .

Thank you and see you at SCLA!
