My name is Dan Bradbury and I am a consultant with Gossage Sager
Associates/Bradbury Associates--a firm specializing in executive
searches in the library field.  We are currently helping the Board of
Trustees of the Lexington Public Library find their next Executive
Director and we are reaching out to some of the library leadership in
neighboring states to seek suggestions for potential candidates for the
position.  
 
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced executive level
administrator with strong organizational and people skills from a
smaller system, or a developing leader in a second tier position at a
similar sized library who is ready to step up to the directorship.
Lexington Public Library serves a combined city-county population of
more than 270,000 through a central library and five branch facilities.
Lexington Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) is the second-largest
municipality in  <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky> Kentucky and
the
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population
> 65th largest in the  <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States>
United States.  The Library has a staff of 192 FTE, a dedicated tax levy
yielding a budget of $14.5 million, a committed Library Board and
Advisory Committee, a successful Library Friends organization, and a
growing LPL Foundation-so all of the pieces are in place to achieve new
levels of excellence in serving its public. Additional information on

The Director reports to a seven-member Board of Trustees-appointed by
the Mayor and approved by the Urban County Council-and partners with
LFUCG departments, state and federal officials, and civic/professional
organizations and groups to achieve the Library's mission and goals.
Requirements include a master's degree in library science and a minimum
of seven years of progressively responsible public library experience in
a management position, including at least four years of executive level
experience as director of a smaller library system, or deputy,
assistant, or associate director of a comparable or larger system.
Prior experience reporting to and working effectively with a governing
board is highly desirable.  See Lexington Executive Director for the

The position offers a starting salary range of $105,000-120,000
(dependent upon experience and qualifications) with an excellent fringe
benefits package.  December 31 is the application deadline.
