Assistant Director for Discovery Services

The James B. Duke Library at Furman University, a top-ranked liberal arts university, seeks an energetic and innovative individual to lead its newly created Discovery Services division. The successful candidate will demonstrate collaborative leadership skills and provide direction for the development and management of digital assets, electronic services, and the library’s web presence.

Responsibilities: delivery of electronic  and traditional reference services; participation in instruction; communication about new resources to faculty, staff, and students; collection development; development of innovative services and user aids; planning and updating of Library web pages; familiarity with emerging technologies. Job requires evening and rotating weekend hours.

Responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to rebuild the library’s online presence, which includes redesign and migration of current main library web site (and related web sites) from Cascade to open-source content management system such as Drupal.  Reporting to the Head of Digital Initiatives and Information Technology Unit, develops methods and web applications to market and deliver library services online, and implement user interfaces for a number of projects designed to interpret digital objects in Clemson’s institutional repository.  Works with library public services to
