2005 Annual Report
The Youth Services Section 2005 Board members were Ellen Stringer, Chair, Karen Edgar, Vice Chair, and Brenda Parker, Secretary. These Board members were selected during the annual meeting at the close of the 2004 annual conference in Greenville. The section began the year with a treasury balance of $128.09 (as of March 29) and made no withdrawals during 2005. The Board met six times during the year to work on member recruitment, to plan sessions for the October 2005 conference in Columbia and to revise the bylaws. Three conference events were sponsored by the section, all at no cost. Wednesday we hosted a Presenters Showcase in Bostick Auditorium at Richland Main Library featuring regional performing artists who market to libraries for special events and summer reading programs. Twenty-seven presenters took part with displays and ten-minute previews of their program offerings. Each presenter paid a $10 entry fee that went directly to the YSS fund balance. On Thursday we hosted a South Carolina Authors’ panel discussion, and on Friday we and the Public Library Section cosponsored a session on Meeting the Needs of the 21st Century Family. After this final session we held our annual meeting and chose 2006 Board members. They are Karen Edgar, Chair, Karen Allen, Vice Chair, Becky James, Secretary, and Ellen Stringer, Past Chair.
