2009 SELA Rep Annual Report
During 2009, the SCLA representative to the Southeastern Library Association, known as the SELA Representative, attended the March 19th, May 21st, August 13th, and October 30th SCLA Executive Board Meetings to promote SELA and to keep the association apprised of library-related events in the Southeast. The SELA Rep also forwarded over forty e-mails from the SELA listserv to the SCLA-LIST and forwarded relevant emails from the SCLA-LIST to the SELA listserv. At the May 21st SCLA Executive Board Meeting, the SELA Rep requested that the Board approve the placement of a link on the SCLA home page to the SELA web site. The Board approved the request and a link to the SELA web site was subsequently added.
The SELA Rep participated in a SELA Executive Board meeting conference call on April 30th to plan its 2009 meeting, which was held in conjunction with the Georgia Council of Media Organizations (COMO) Conference, October 7-9, 2009, in Columbus, Georgia. On October 9th, SELA sponsored an open forum entitled, “Expanding Services without Expanding Budgets,” which was presented by Dr. Gordon Baker and Katherine Ott. Later that day, there was a SELA luncheon, which was attended by the ALA President Camila A. Alire, and a SELA board meeting. During the board meeting, plans for the 2010 Arkansas Library Association and the Southeastern Library Association Joint Conference were discussed. The joint conference will be held September 26th-28th, 2010 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The SELA Rep, along with SELA member, Beverly James, staffed the SELA booth during the 2009 SCLA Conference. To increase awareness of SELA among SCLA members, a free one-year SELA membership, a Books-A-Million gift card, and two gift baskets were given away. The winners were announced during the Awards Brunch on Friday, October 30th.
