Coastal Carolina University’s Kimbel Library is expanding its services to meet the needs of a rapidly growing campus. It seeks an enthusiastic colleague to provide vision and leadership that reflects current needs and anticipates future trends in the evolving library and information environment.
The successful candidate will have experience in the management of library systems that support the essential functions of the library, including the library’s integrated system and resource sharing software and systems. Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in the provision of library resources is essential as this person will lead a small team consisting of electronic resources and systems together with emerging technologies and web design in the development of new and exciting ways to meet the needs of the faculty, students, and staff of Coastal Carolina University. He/she will be responsible for design and development of a dynamic web presence for the library that integrates resources and technology to achieve a user-friendly environment and efficient access to the library’s services and resources.
Required Qualifications include: MLS, MIS, or equivalent graduate degree; a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in library systems, preferably with III ;experience with web design and development, including knowledge of and experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and SQL; knowledge of protocols, standards and best practices in library technology and systems and web development including XML and XSLT; metadata standards including MARC and Dublin Core; and knowledge of library technology protocols such as OpenURL; demonstrated knowledge and experience with project management; knowledge of and experience with data collection and assessment of library systems, including usability studies and other forms of user participation in assessment; and ability to meet promotion and tenure criteria for Coastal Carolina University faculty.
Preferred Qualifications include: supervisory experience including hiring, training, and evaluating library staff; experience with strategic planning, budgeting and assessment; and second post-baccalaureate degree.
This is a twelve-month, tenure track faculty position with a comprehensive benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with candidate’s experience and professional achievement.

Nature of Work:
Provide strategic leadership in developing effective access to and use of electronic information sources. Participate in the ongoing development of automated library information systems and helps maintain the efficient operation of existing automated processes. Cataloging Librarian - The South Carolina Historical Society
The South Carolina Historical Society, the state’s oldest and largest private manuscript archive, seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to perform a number of archival and library related tasks including cataloging, outreach, and reference assistance. Reporting to the Archivist, the Cataloging Librarian will create EAD finding aids and MARC-format catalog records according to national standards for a wide range of literary and historical collections including manuscripts as well as published materials. Minimum Requirements
Master's degree and archival experience. Graduate work in one of the following areas preferred: archival administration, public history, or Jewish history, culture, or art. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply. Must possess a demonstrated ability to think analytically and write clearly and concisely. Familiarity with southern Jewish history, with a focus on South Carolina, would be advantageous.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires knowledge of standard archival practices and procedures, metadata creation, digitization processes, and HTML and XML encoding. Must have excellent computers skills and be able to process collections to various levels of access with speed and accuracy. Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds is essential. Training and management skills are necessary, in order to teach archival techniques to student assistants and volunteers. Must be able to plan and supervise multiple projects simultaneously. Reading skills in Hebrew, Yiddish, and modern European languages a plus.
Job Duties

Evaluates, edits, and suggests revisions of finding aids, metadata, and digitization efforts. Helps to create and assign metadata for manuscript collections, artifacts, and oral histories. This is an exciting opportunity to create and lead the direction of a new Virtual Services Department to enrich the digital experience of library users, including establishing a new staff for the Virtual Services Department.

Examples of Work:
Management, supervision, and administration of the Virtual Services Department, the Virtual Branch, and the Library website.
Coordination with the Technology Department and others, for the overall delivery of the RCPL digital customer experience within the Library website, online catalog, intranet, and external web applications.

Utilizes site metrics tools and statistical data to analyze site usage, identify opportunities and maximize customer digital impact.
Keeps informed of emerging technologies and standards and constantly seeks opportunities to take advantage of new media, emerging social tools and interactive research to enhance customer experience. Responsible for implementing and providing innovative virtual services.
Coordinates, initiates, and approves documentation to assure proper fiscal and regulatory control. Prepares and manages Department budget.
Delegates tasks, fields questions/complaints and gathers data to prepare supporting communications. Owns customer complaints until resolution.
Evaluates, selects, contacts and communicates with vendors in the support and development of applications and solutions for digital technology.
Utilizes computer applications and library equipment, maintains current knowledge of system-wide and location specific procedures, processes, policies and operations. Maintains open and effective channels of communication.
Serves in an advisory capacity in conjunction with the Technology Department on the format and display of the Library’s online catalog.
Oversees website training for RCPL staff.
Other Important Responsibilities:
Provides second tier support for technical issues involving the website. Creates and maintains web pages; inputs data; updates the website.
Serves as Library liaison to the community and to the Library staff for the website.
Serves as a rotating weekend supervisor.
Performs other associated duties as required or assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
1. Master's degree in any relevant field; plus a combined total of at least 4 years of relevant experience, which includes managing web teams, website experiences, complex site design/development, and library work.
2. Master's degree is preferred minimum qualification, however, in lieu of the Master's degree and experience requirements stated above, consideration will go to applicants with a Bachelor's degree including major coursework in interactive web design, instructional design, information design and/or user-experience-related fields; and at least 5 years of relevant applied experience including managing web teams and website experiences. Candidates must have broad experience in the design and development of complex sites and basic knowledge of libraries. (Qualifying degree, whether Bachelor’s or Master’s, must have been earned from an accredited college or university.)
3. Valid driver’s license with safe driving record.

The University Archives houses the University's records, the Women Veterans Historical Project and the manuscripts collections and is part of a larger department (SCUA) that also includes special collections and rare books, which specializes in women's literature, cello music and manuscripts, and books documenting trade binding and other book arts.
Reporting to the Head of Special Collections and University Archives, this position will supervise a unit of professional and paraprofessional employees and provide policy evaluation and guidance. An ALA accredited MLS degree is required. Residents will provide service and gain valuable experience in multiple facets of academic librarianship through this process by spending their first year in three different functional areas and their second year focused in one primary service area. University Collections Manager - Furman University
The University Collections Manager is a half-time position responsible for all aspects of collections management for the decorative and fine arts belonging to Furman University.
