College and University Section

It is the purpose of the College and University Section to serve persons interested in all aspects of academic libraries. Its objective is to stimulate and support high standards of library service in colleges and universities. It encourages professional growth through attendance at professional meetings, promotion of communication and exchange of ideas among its members, continuing education opportunities, and dissemination of publications of professional interest to its membership. It represents academic library concerns to other Sections within the SCLA as well as to groups and persons outside the Association.

2009 Summer Program

The College & University section sponsored a summer program entitled, "Other Duties as Assigned: Emerging Roles for Librarians."Strong The program provided a glimpse into the future of librarianship by examining new jobs and skills for today's librarians. The keynote speaker was Lori Goetsch, President-Elect of ACRL and Dean of Libraries at Kansas State University. Ms. Goetsch discussed emerging roles in the profession and updated the group on related ACRL activities. The afternoon speakers were, Lisa Wiecki, Adam Haigh, and Mike Berry of Lander University. The trio discussed how they took stock of their job duties and titles under a new dean with a session entitled “This Old Job: Our Process of Revision”. And the program concluded with a panel entitled, "Emerging Roles in South Carolina Libraries". The panelists featured Mandy Mastrovita, Clemson University; Todd Rix, Coker College; and Jan Comfort, Clemson University. There were 51 librarians in attendance.

2009 Annual Conference Program

The College & University Section sponsored a program at the 2009 SCLA Annual Conference entitled, "Adapting to a Changing World: Exceptional Services for a New Information Environment". The program featured Lauren Pressley, Instructional Design Librarian, Wake Forest University. The program drew more than 60 attendees from academic libraries around South Carolina.
