2007 College and University Workshop:
Keeping Up With Our Patrons: Adapting to User Expectations
Endeca. Trillion. Vidcasts. Tag clouds.
Sound like science fiction lingo? There is one thing these words have in common; they are all tools that make libraries more accommodating to today’s users. Want to hear more?
Please join the SCLA College & University section for “Keeping up with our patrons: Adapting to user expectations”, a workshop to learn how academic libraries are using innovative strategies to meet the real needs of our patrons.
The workshop will feature a presentation by Scott Warren of North Carolina State University (NCSU), entitled “Endeca and Faceted Browsing: Giving the User a Useful Catalog”. The presentation describes NCSU’s innovative use of technology in their library catalog. This next-generation catalog offers more user-defined search capabilities as well as the speed and flexibility of online search engines. Learn more about this project at http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/endeca/.
Kristen DeVoe, columnist for Against the Grain, will join us to highlight technological innovations of interest to academic libraries.
And a panel of South Carolina librarians will share how they are working to meet the current needs of their users. Panelists include Shawn Carraway, Midlands Technical College, Gordon Cochrane, Clemson University, and Tucky Taylor, University of South Carolina.
Mark your calendars! Don’t miss this opportunity to listen, learn, and lunch with your South Carolina colleagues!
Open a printable flyer with workshop details. Feel free to use the flyer to advertise the workshop in your library.
