SCLA Bibliographic Instruction Interest Group
2009 Annual Report
The Bibliographic Instruction Interest Group lost both its Chair, Jamie Graham, and Vice-Chair, Lisa Hartman, during the spring and summer of 2009. Both had served the BI Interest Group as officers for several years. Both moved out of state to accept new positions. Conference planning was taken over by the 2009 Secretary, Andrew Kearns.
The Bibliographic Instruction Interest Group sponsored one session at the 2009 SCLA Conference, a panel discussion titled Information Literacy Across South Carolina: Diverse Programs for a Diverse State. Featured panelists were David Bell and Stella Carmody from the Horry County Schools, Clo Cammarata from the Richland County Public Library, and Rose Marshall from the University of South Carolina Aiken. They discussed aspects of their information literacy programs and generated a lively discussion with each other and the audience. The session was attended by around 20 people and was well-received. The presence of school media specialists in the discussion was especially appreciated.
The Bibliographic Instruction Interest Group also elected officers for the 2010 year:
Chair – Andrew Kearns, University of South Carolina Upstate
Vice-Chair – Mary Fairbairn, Furman University
Secretary – Anne Grant, Clemson University
At the meeting, the proposal was made to change the name of the group to Information Literacy Interest Group. The Chair promised to look into how this might be accomplished.
