2002 Annual Report of the Archives and History Committee Report
Submitted by Stephanie Adams, August 2002
In an exchange of email, the committee agrees that a 3-year retention of records before they are transferred to Winthrop University would make sense. This will ensure that chairmen will have access to a couple of years' worth of material to help them during their tenure. There was a fair amount of discussion about actually physically transferring the material. The selection of Capital Consulting to serve as executive secretary will solve many of these logistical problems. The committee expects to be in contact with them to coordinate transfer of material to them as a central holding place. The committee can then meet once a year at their offices to appraise, weed, and prepare the material for transfer to Winthrop. We feel it is important to make sure the material is in good shape, so that the archivist at Winthrop has an easy time managing it. The report of the existing archives at Winthrop is that it is properly housed, with an inventory and calendar available. From the mid/late 1980s to present, there is a gap in the collection. It has been suggested that we contact Gina Price White, the archivist, to see if she would be interested in joining SCLA and serving on the committee in an ex-officio capacity.
Committee members for 2002 included:Stephanie Adams, chair; Aimee Berry, Dennis Taylor, Suzanne Singleton, Mary Morgan and Laura Stuckey, ex officio.
