2004 ANNUAL REPORT
During the year, the Chair of RAAC attended the meetings of the Executive Board of the South Carolina Library Association. In addition, the Chair represented the Roundtable at two leadership meetings on the topic of the “Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement of African-American Librarians,” hosted by The USC - School of Library and Information Science.
The bylaws of the Roundtable were updated and submitted to the Chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee of SCLA.
RAAC has increased its membership to 51 members. In an effort to retain and recruit members for 2005, flyers were placed in the 2004 SCLA Conference bags.
RAAC members met September 2004 at the James A. Rogers Library in Florence, South Carolina to outline plans and program objectives for 2005.
RAAC co-sponsored a session at the SCLA Annual Conference with The USC – SLIS entitled ‘Recruitment, Retention and Advancement of African-Americans in the Library Profession.’ The speaker was Dr. Arthur Gunn, former Dean of the School of Library and Information Studies, Clark-Atlanta University. Also at the Conference, RAAC members helped sell raffle tickets for the Scholarship for Diversity.
Immediately following the above-mentioned session, RAAC had its annual business meeting. The following officers were elected for 2005:
