PUBLIC SERVICES SECTION ANNUAL REPORT
DECEMBER 2003
The Public Services Section officer positions were filled at the 2002 SCLA/SELA Annual Conference in Charleston, SC. Jennifer Little (USC Aiken) served as chair, Karen Swetland (USC Spartanburg) served as vice-chair, and Bill McRee (Greenville County Library) served as secretary. In June Karen Swetland met with Jennifer Little and Cole Jacques (Chair, BI Interest Group) at USC Aiken in order to organize section binders and review section responsibilities since it was both Jennifer’s and Cole’s first time serving as officers in SCLA.
The Public Services Section sponsored the workshop, “Cheating 101: Combating Internet Plagiarism.” It was led by Margaret Fain and Peggy Bates, both from the reference department of the Kimbel Library at Coastal Carolina University. About 25 attendees participated in a lively interactive discussion and expressed appreciation for a well-prepared presentation.
The budget for the section started the year at $560.00 and as of October 20, 2003 had $755.66.
The annual business meeting immediately followed the workshop. Ideas for a mid-year workshop and/or next year’s conference included: the status of librarians in academic libraries, faculty tenure, and programming for outreach. New officers were elected:
- Chair: Karen Swetland, USC Spartanburg
- Vice-Chair: Geri Gaskill, Horry County Memorial Library
- Secretary: C. Camille Cooper, Clemson University
Respectfully submitted,
Jennifer Little
Public Services Section Chair
