2002 Public Library Section Annual Report
The Public Library Section has had a productive year. The executive committee members met twice and conducted ongoing communication by email. A goal this year was to prepare to activate Public Library Section Standing Committees. During the year, Marilyn Tsirigotis developed guidelines for the Committees. The intention is that the committees be activated for the 2002/2003 year. Another change was that the administrative responsibility for the best public library website award was transferred from the Public Library Section to the SCLA Publicity Committee.
This year the Section sponsored one workshop and one Conference Program. The workshop was held on May 10, 2002 at the Southeast Regional Branch of the Richland County Public Library. Charletta Felder of Richland County Public Library, and Elizabeth Shuping and Manuel Vega of Horry County Library presented a program entitled Serving Diverse Populations to 15 attendees. At the joint SCLA/SELA Conference in Charleston, the Section co-sponsored a program with SELA’s Public Library Section. The program, How Do I Think Outside the Box when the Box keeps Changing, was presented by Christine Ray of Highsmith, Inc.October 25, 2002.
Also at the annual Conference Section officers for 2003 were elected. Tracey Ouzts was elected Chair, Dennis Adams Vice-Chair, Clo Cammarata Secretary/Treasurer, Elizabeth Shuping and Bertha Tucker Delegates-at-Large.
