Minutes of New Members’ Roundtable on Oct. 24, 2003

Amanda Turner, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 10:30.

Laura Baker Furman University
Derek Wilmott, University of South Carolina
Marie Degenhardt, Trident Tech
Maria Jones

Derek moved and Laura seconded that the 2002 minutes be approved.

In order to select new officers the duties were discussed. Most of the work will be completed via email. If possible the officers should attend the SCLA Board meetings. The officers will plan the 2004 activities.

New officers are:

Burton Callicott Chairman
Laura Baker Vice Chairman
Marie Degenhardt Secretary

Article in July 2003 SCLA Newsletter by Mandy
Updated brochure produced
Sponsored a breakfast and 2 programs at 2003 SCLA
Sponsored the NMRT New Professional Award funded by EBSCO

New Business

We do have a budget that can be used for speakers. Money is allotted by people signing up for NMRT on their SCLA registration.

Ideas to publicize NMRT and programs for NMRT

At SCLA have a mid morning or lunch, or dinner session in Greenville
Use the new brochures for publicity. Send them to libraries with information about the New Professional Award. Also give to Library School to distribute.
Get stories from the front line as advice for new librarians
Have a workshop on reference interview skills.
Have articles presented on various subjects by experienced librarians.
Set up a mentor program
Present a Who’s Who in the SC Library arena

At 10:55 Derek moved and Laura seconded that we adjourn.
