2002 Annual Report of the Legislative Committee

In 2002 the SCLA Legislative Committee was composed of the following members:

  • Deborah Hotchkiss (rotates off 2002)
  • Martha Taylor (rotates off 2002)
  • Faith A. Line (rotates off 2003)
  • David Heisser (rotates off 2003)
  • David Weeks (rotates off 2004)
  • Bill Sudduth (rotates off 2004)

During the year the Committee posted information about federal and state legislative issues on the SCLA Web site. Some messages from the American Library Association Washington Office were sent to SCLA members on the Association’s email list.

The Committee proposed a revision of its charge, and this was approved at the annual conference in Charleston in October. The new wording is:

Duties:
  • Studies library issues affecting South Carolina and recommends to the Executive Board action designed to promote the goals and objectives of the Association.
  • Recommends the annual legislative program to the Executive Board.
  • Keeps the membership informed regarding the status of the legislative program and notifies members when they need to support and/or secure citizen support of the legislative program.

Respectfully submitted,

David Heisser, Chair
