2004 Events
We sponsored two events at the SCLA Annual Conference in Greenville.
On October 27 we hosted a panel discussion on E-government. Panelists were Billy Ruth from South Carolina’s CIO’s office, and Sheila Butler, Director of IT for Horry County. They provided us with a lively discussion of some of the issues that face the growing presence of government on the internet including privacy v. access, financial support, service to the public, permanence and achieving, and technology. They face many of the same issues we face with federal documents.
On October 29 we heard from Mary Alice Baish from the Washington Office of the American Association of Law Librarians. Her talk was entitled “Access To Information In Today’s Political Climate” and she gave a careful review of changes in access to government information since 9/11. She also mentioned ways we could get involved to keep our government open and accessible. Her talk is on the web at http://www.ll.georgetown.edu/aallwash/.
