South Carolina Chapter ALA Councilor’s Report 2002
ALA Annual Conference
The American Library Association has approved the formation of an allied organization named the Allied Professional Association. This association has been organized as a 501C(6)association.It will represent librarians and other allied professionals, not just libraries. As a 501C(6)organization it will be able to undertake a broader scope of activities, including advocacy, lobbying, and certification. The activities of ALA are limited in these areas by their IRS designation. The two associations will share the extant governing bodies of ALa. I will give a fuller report at the May board meeting.
