2006–2007 LEGISLATIVE REPORT

The 2006–2007 legislative session was profitable for libraries of all types in South Carolina. The following actions were approved:
PUBLIC LIBRARIES.
State Aid for public libraries was increased from $2 per capita to $2.25 per capita. The minimum county grant was increased from $50,000 to $60,000.
Lottery funding of $1 million was approved. This funding is the first item under the unclaimed prize money. It should be available in mid-August when the Comptroller-General closes out the FY07 budget books.
SCHOOL LIBRARIES
For the first time, the General Assembly approved earmarked funding for school library-media centers. This funding totals $1 million in non-recurring funding.
ACADEMIC LIBRARIES
PASCAL received $2 million in non-recurring funds for the “Academic Virtual Library”.
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE LIBRARY
A total of $250,000 was authorized for the DISCUS program,
PUBLIC LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION GRANTS
Johnsonville Branch, Florence County Library. $550,000.
Headquarters Library, Marlboro County Library. $100,000.
