COLLEGE & UNVERSITY SECTION
ANNUAL REPORT
2005
Officers serving for 2004–2005 were:
After serving as Vice-Chair for two years and then as Chair for one year, one conclusion I have drawn is that the College & University Section is the sleeping giant of the South Carolina Library Association. There is great potential for membership and professional development that is as yet untapped.
In 2004–2005 the Section officers have worked on the following projects: 1) re-organized Section records; 2) submitted two book reviews for the ALA One Nation, One Voice campaign; 3) began work on a project to update the academic library portion of the standards section of the SCLA handbook. This has been undertaken with the permission of the Chair of the Library and Professional Standards Committee.
The Section Bylaws were approved by the Section membership at the 2004 annual business meeting and adopted by the SCLA Executive Board in 2005.
At the annual conference in October 2005, the Section sponsored a program entitled For Better or for Worse: A California Marriage, by Dr. Patricia Senn Breivik. Dr. Breivik discussed the joint library effort in San Jose, CA, which resulted in the 2004 Library of the Year Award. The program was jointly sponsored by the Public Libraries Section.
