The SCLA Annual Conference will be held at the Greenville Hyatt on October 21–24, 2008.

Program Proposals have been coming in like crazy! So many interesting ideas for sessions! If your committee, section or roundtable has not gotten a proposal in, please contact Libby Young (libby.young@furman.edu). It is still possible to have a session.
Feb. 4, 2008: Thanks to everyone who came to the leadership planning retreat last Saturday in Columbia. We had a great turnout and a good beginning for our year and conference. The theme for our conference this year is Going Green. You can view the powerpoint we saw on Saturday below or http://www.slideshare.net (just search for SCLA). Its intent is to get everyone thinking about possible programing and poster sessions, as well as show how we can make our meeting as environmentally-friendly as possible. The theme should not be a limiting factor, and if your committee, roundtable or section has an idea for a conference session that is not within the theme, that is fine.

Presentation Title: Creating Dynamic Book Clubs for Children and Teens
Are you interested in starting a book club for children or teens? Do you already run a youth book club and want to inject new life into meetings?
Judy Gelman and Vicki Levy Krupp, co-authors of The Kids’ Book Club Book, discuss what they learned in conversations with hundreds of youth book club facilitators and members across America. Gelman and Krupp will share the secrets of creating and sustaining vital, exciting youth book clubs for boys’, girls’, co-ed, parent-child and multigenerational groups. Topics include the nuts and bolts of organizing meetings, selecting books, and running discussions, as well as the creative ways that youth book clubs around the country are integrating food and activities into their meetings.
